what range do you get from your FPV goggles before the signal drops off and breaks up?

I get about 3 quarters of a rugby pitch before my signal starts to break up is this about right, as when I watch the drone racing league on you tube my FPV signal seems pitiful to say the least compared to them but is this because they are using top notch gear?

I live in the U.K. I have a surface limit of 400feet but some how unless we start cloud racing I don't think I'll ever go that high with a racing drone! Plus I also live under a military flight path and having served for 22 years in the RAF i know what damage a bird can do to a jet so I have no intention of jeopardising lives by flying my drone that high, unlike the idiots that ruin it for us who don't play by the rules.
The rules I use can all be found here, not sure if they are similar to your rules and regs though
The Law - FPV UK I also use Nats http://www.nats.aero/which is recommended by the CAA

    That is altitude.

We are talking about distance here. CE has much less power than FCC transmitter. Maybe good until 300/400 mtr at max.

Try to get a better cloverleaf antenna first for the Video Tx and Rx, IBCrazy Bluebeam (the best) or Aomway cloverleaf antenna would be a good start. Just make sure it is matching polarisation, RHCP or LHCP.

If you have a diversity video receiver, add another helical antenna to it, I bought Aomway helical antenna for mine and it is awesome.
