OK well Im going to do it.

I will interface the joystick into the trainer port. One step at a time I will get the 3 axis and the throttle control working first and then maybe think about the rest of the switches. But Im quite happy to leave the switches functioning on the radio.

Can anyone point me to the ppm stream that the F12E puts out?

You have not actually explained what you are trying to do. the title is vague.

You cant connect a normal joystick to the trainer port or use the trainer port as a joystick.

The trainer port is one way PPM dependant on the TX being student or trainer. This is determined on if power is already applied on the Trainer port as the radio is powered up. No power = Instructor, power = trainer.

A PC joystick will be an old analog Serial port connection or a USB connection. You would need a PPM to USB converter. These are available to make the F12E a joystick. But you can't go the other way and connect a joystick to the F12E. There would be no point anyway.

    Cheers

I want to use a USB joystick in place of the 2 sticks on the F12E. Its ok we have worked it out.

I have a missile engineer here from Raytheon. He said we can do it no problem.

OK you better ask him to check the 2 pots on the F12E and the Joystick to see if they are the same resistance value

If they have different resistances then its not going to work.

And why would you want to do that?????

He has written some code in Arduino with a USB shield to interpret what is coming out of the USB joystick so the resistance values, switches etc dont matter.

He has written some arduino code to give a ppm output identical to the stream that would come from the trainee TX to feed into the trainer.

I just want to fly the quad from a joystick for something different. I have seen some youtube videos of people using the F12E to do this however they were using a PC (laptop and Compufly) and it worked for them. . We want to build a module to do it.

Worked for them so we will get it to work as well.

:) Ask away when you need to.

I guess sit would be interesting to fly with my Thrustmaster F16 Throttle and Stick.
